Tiger Leaping Gorge 虎跳峡

Today we’re taking a trip to see where a tiger is said to have leaped across a wild river. First, we travel 80 km (50 miles) further north into the mountains by bus (€6/person). At the site of the legend, a monument and a large viewing terrace have even been built. Below flows the Jinsha River, the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, which at 6,300 km (3,915 miles) is the longest river in China, and despite its enormous length, flows ONLY within China.

Through the legend, this place takes on a mythological significance.

The Goat Path 高路, Gāolù

We then take a shared taxi further into the gorge and up the mountain 400 m (1,312 ft). The Goat Path is actually a very famous high-altitude trekking route with great views, steep cliffs, spectacular and deep gorges. Our 10 km (6.2 mile) hike thus proved to be quite exciting, and the path was often quite narrow and close to the abyss.

Wonderful weather and magnificent views
The narrower the path, the smaller the smile
